Cianbro has purchased 100% of the outstanding stock of STARCON International, Inc.  The strategic acquisition by Cianbro will launch one of the East Coast’s largest diversified general contractors into the $12 billion refining and petrochemical service business, with nationwide presence.

The Cianbro Companies are a Maine-based organization established in 1949, operating in 15 eastern states with 2,500 team members.  Cianbro focuses on industrial, electrical and transportation infrastructure construction, steel fabrication and coating, and modular manufacturing.  The organization is nationally recognized for its safety and wellness programs.

STARCON International, Inc. is a company based in Illinois with a roster of 1,500 team members operating throughout the United States.  The company was established in 1985, and is a leader in offering creative solutions and reliable performance to the demanding U.S. refining and petrochemical industry.  STARCON provides mechanical and turnaround contractor services in many of the refinery and petrochemical operations located throughout the United States.  The company has developed proprietary programs and patented tooling to serve the industry.

During 2009, Cianbro and STARCON formed a marketing alliance which allowed both management teams to collaborate on serving client needs and to define each company's complimentary strengths.  The alliance helped both companies to develop relationships that will provide a strong foundation for future growth.

STARCON International, Inc. will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Cianbro Companies, and will enable Cianbro to offer highly integrated solutions to the refining and petrochemical industry across the nation.  These solutions include award-winning craft team members, and dedicated modular and fabrication facilities with deep-water access in Maine and Maryland.  Cianbro's modular capabilities received praise from the owners of the Motiva refinery expansion project, who contracted Cianbro to construct 51 refinery modules for their facility in Port Arthur, Texas.  The organization's strengths also include innovative safety and training programs, and a substantial equipment fleet.
