Starcon recently received the Safety Excellence Award from LyondellBasell’s Channelview Complex at their 2011 Annual CHESS Team Recognition event in early January. CHESS (Contractors Helping Everyone Stay Safe) is Channelview’s contractor safety council.

Starcon was the only contractor at the Channelview site to receive this award.  The company's safety efforts at the LyondellBasell chemical plants in Channelview, Texas are unsurpassed.  Starcon provides daily maintenance services at the Channelview facility.  The Channelview site management team - George Guajardo, Anthony Falcon and Ulices Quiroga received the award from LyondellBasell on behalf of Starcon.

“I am extremely proud of the safety accomplishments of the Starcon team at LyondellBasell Channelview,” said President and COO Dale Kuntz.  “Receiving the Contractor Safety Excellence Award is a tremendous recognition of our team at LyondellBasell Channelview and their commitment to partnering with the site to achieve their safety goal zero.“ Congratulations to Ulices Quiroga, who is our site leader, and his entire Starcon team.”

In addition to recognizing Starcon for their total Goal Zero commitment, LyondellBasell also recognized S&B, Brand and Webb-Murray for outstanding participation in 2011 Safety Walkabouts.

Ten organizations also received recognition for 100 percent attendance at all CHESS team meetings (Brand, CDI, Coopwood, Guardian, IGM, RSC, Seal Tech, S&B, Starcon and Webb-Murray).

Achieving Goal Zero comes through a disciplined approach and attention to detail in all aspects of our work.  It can only be achieved with solid teamwork—holding each other accountable and helping others to be successful.  Goal Zero is about behavior and our commitment to flawless execution in everything that we do.

“Goal Zero is not about numbers. It is about creating the type of workplace where we know and take care of everyone, said Site Manager Mike VanDerSnick. “We really appreciate all of our coworkers working together to keep us injury and incident free.”

Congratulations to all of the Channelview CHESS Award Recipients.
