Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) has announced that Starcon International, Inc. received top honors during the 24th annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration in Maui, Hawaii.
Starcon received an Eagle Award for the Furnace Re-Tube project in Morris, Illinois in the "Mechanical/Industrial–Less Than $10 Million" category.
During this project, Starcon International completed the highly specialized welding necessary to re-tube furnaces for a chemical company, achieving 3,000 welds annually at a 98 percent acceptance rate.
In addition, Starcon maintained a safety record that has earned them a National Safety Merit Award.
“It’s an honor to be able to recognize this amazing company for their impressive achievements in key areas of project planning, execution and delivery,” said 2014 ABC National Chairman Dan Brodbeck, president and CEO of Compass Partners, LLC. “From making safety a core value for their company, to maintaining a commitment to innovation and quality on each job, Starcon International represents the best the merit shop has to offer.”
The Excellence in Construction awards program honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. Projects are judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost. This year's panel of judges included representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, Engineering News-Record, the American Institute of Architects, and the National Association of Women in Construction, and representatives from higher education, among others.
The 2013 National Safety Excellence Award winners were selected from ABC member firms that achieved Diamond, Platinum and Gold status in ABC's Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) and were judged on self-evaluation scores, lost workday case rates, total recordable rates, leading indicator use, process and program innovations and video interviews conducted by members of ABC’s National Environment, Health & Safety Committee.
Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national trade association representing 22,000 chapter members. Founded on the merit shop philosophy, ABC and its 70 chapters help members develop people, win work, and deliver that work safely, ethically and profitably for the betterment of the communities in which they work.
